About Digital Jericho
The organization's background, goals, and history.
Digital Jericho is an international organization aiming to provide academic and educational services to the continent of Africa. It is an initiative by people who were educated in Europe and believe all people should have equal access to high quality education.
We think Digital Jericho is a good name because our purpose is to be inter-confessional and if possible inter-religious as an organization. Old Testament serves best for all Abrahamic religions and for all Christian confessions (a kind of return to the roots). Furthermore, the parable of the Good Samaritan starts with "down from Jerusalem to Jericho" which of course symbolizes leaving the heavenly city descending to Jericho, a symbolism Origen believed was about salvation of the sinful. In our case, knowledge is the salvific asset. Finally, the walls of Jericho also serve as a symbol. The walls somebody can overcome using knowledge.
Our organization stands on two pillars.
One is the Digital Jericho Journal with disciplinary focus on Digital Theology and Digital Humanities with focus on Theology and the other is the Digital Jericho Academy, an educational initiative offering a non-formal Master's-level curriculum in Digital Humanities with focus on Theology, delivered online. Instruction shall be offered as a form of academic diakonia to accredited African theological institutions. The degree titles shall be conferred exclusively by the participating universities, while Digital Jericho Academy provides content, instruction and academic mentorship.
