STATUTE OF THE NON-PROFIT CIVIL ASSOCIATION

DIGITAL JERICHO

Article 1 - Name and Legal Form

1.1. The Association shall be known as Digital Jericho, hereinafter referred to as "the Association."
1.2. The Association shall operate as a Non-Profit Civil Association under the relevant civil law provisions governing non-profit scholarly entities.
1.3. All activities of the Association shall be strictly non-profit and conducted exclusively for academic, educational and charitable purposes.


Article 2 - Seat

2.1. The legal seat of the Association is United Kingdom.
2.2. The Association may establish digital or regional chapters, academic nodes, or virtual offices internationally, upon decision of the Board.


Article 3 - Mission and Vision

3.1. The mission of Digital Jericho is to advance Digital Humanities with specific focus on Theology, through scholarly networking, peer-reviewed academic publication, and educational outreach.
3.2. The vision of the Association is to create an academically rigorous yet socially responsible platform connecting Theology, digital scholarship, and global educational diakonia.

4.1. Digital Jericho Journal (DJJ)

4.2. Digital Jericho Academy (DJA)


Article 5 - Values and Academic Ethos

5.1. Digital Jericho upholds academic rigor, peer accountability, open knowledge, intercultural dialogue, theological responsibility, and service to the global church and academic communities.
5.2. The Association affirms respect for ecclesial diversity, academic pluralism, and ethical digital scholarship.


Article 6 - Membership

6.1. The Association shall consist initially of four Founding Members.
6.2. Membership will be expanded up to eight full and elected members, from backgrounds in Theology, Computer Science, or Digital Humanities.
6.3. New members shall be admitted following nomination by an existing member and approval by a two-thirds majority of the Board.
6.4. Members are expected to contribute academically, either through publications, peer-review, teaching, or research coordination.


Article 7 - Governance

7.1. The governing body of the Association shall be the Board of Digital Jericho, hereinafter referred to as "the Board."

7.2a. The Management Board shall consist of the four Founding Members and four elected members. The Management Board shall have decision-making authority over all matters pertaining to the Association, except for amendments to this Statute.

7.2b. Decisions of the Management Board shall be made by simple majority vote. The voting allocation shall be as follows: (i) The Managing Director shall hold three (3) votes; (ii) Each of the three remaining Founding Members shall hold two (2) votes; (iii) Each of the four elected members shall hold one (1) vote; (iv) The total voting power shall consist of thirteen (13) votes.

7.3. Permanent members hold their positions continuously unless they voluntarily resign.

7.4. Rotating members serve a term of two (2) years, renewable by re-election.

7.5. The Board shall elect from among its members the following roles: President (or Chair) Academic Director of the Journal Academic Director of the Academy Secretary and Treasurer (may be combined or split depending on volume of work)


Article 8 - Meetings and Decisions

8.1. The Board shall meet at least once a month, either digitally or in person.
8.2. Decisions shall be made by simple majority, unless otherwise specified. In the event of a tie, the President's vote shall be decisive.
8.3. Statutory changes or dissolution of the Association shall be taken by the founding members only and requires unanimity.


Article 9 - Digital Jericho Journal Governance

9.1. The Journal shall maintain an Editorial Committee, consisting of the Academic Director and at least two members of the Board, as well as a team of volunteer reviewers.
9.2. Each submitted article shall undergo peer-review by the academic reviewers of the Association.
9.3. External reviewers may be invited at the discretion of the Editorial Committee.


Article 10 - Digital Jericho Academy Governance

10.1. The Academy shall operate under a Curriculum Council, chaired by the Academic Director of DJA.
10.2. Teaching responsibilities shall be allocated among members based on expertise.
10.3. All teaching by the Curriculum Council shall be offered without financial compensation, as a form of voluntary scholarly diakonia.
10.4. Partnerships with universities shall be formalized through Memoranda of Academic Collaboration.


Article 11 - Financial Provisions

11.1. The Association is non-profit and shall not distribute any financial surplus to its members.
11.2. Resources may come from:


11.3. All funds shall solely support the upkeep of the digital infrastructure, academic publishing tools, delivery of educational programs, and organization of summits, meetings, conferences etc.


Article 12 - Intellectual Property and Affiliation

12.1. All publications shall list authors with affiliation: Digital Jericho Journal (or equivalent chosen official name if registered), alongside any university affiliation.
12.2. Curriculum materials produced for the Digital Jericho Academy shall remain open for scholarly use within partner institutions.


Article 13 - Ethics and Academic Integrity

13.1. All members and participants adhere to strict academic integrity, including original research, proper citation, and fair peer-review.
13.2. Plagiarism, academic dishonesty or misuse of the name Digital Jericho for personal promotion shall constitute grounds for removal.


Article 14 - Dissolution

14.1. In case of dissolution, any remaining digital or financial resources shall be offered to an academic or ecclesial institution in supporting theological education.
14.2. No member shall claim personal financial benefit from dissolution.


Article 15 - Final Provisions

15.1. This Statute enters into effect upon signature by all four Founding Members.
15.2. The Association may register formally as "Digital Jericho Society for Theology and Digital Humanities."
